The city of Stamford, Connecticut has seen tremendous growth in many different areas over the last few years. According to the census completed in 2010 the population of the city is 122,643, which makes it the fourth largest city in the State and one of the eight largest cities in New England. Stamford is part of the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk Metro area, which makes it a part of the New York Metropolitan area.
One area that Stamford has benefited greatly from is from the relocation of major companies and corporations to this area. Stamford has become the home to many Fortune 500, Fortune 1000 and Courant 100 companies. Some of the large companies that have headquarters here include World Wrestling Entertainment, Tasty Bite and Pitney Bowes. The widely know company UBS hold a trading floor there as well as Royal Bank of Scotland and many more. Many of these companies have given up their leases in Manhattan and relocated to Stamford. It’s close enough to the city and to still be convenient, yet the rent is so much more affordable.
It’s a ripple effect. The move of many large corporations to area has harbored growth in lots of area. We have seen many more Stamford Hotels crop up. There are many new hotels to service the needs of the business travels. Some of the existing hotels have undergone or are in the midst of undergoing major renovations. There are now numerous upscale and elegant hotels throughout Stamford.
Mass transportation has also trumped up their services. New lines have been added. Stamford is located on the main branch of the New Haven Line on the Metro North Railroad. This is the rail line that is responsible for getting commuters in and out of the city. This line takes you directly from Stamford right into Grand Central Station. Stamford is one of the busiest stops on this line. There are even several non-stop express trains going to and from Grand Central Station and Stamford, making the commute even shorter. It also serves as a transfer stop to many local rail lines. With the increased commuter travel, the city is considering new stops along the way. Stamford also serves as a station along the Amtrak Route. The Acela, which runs from Boston to Washington, makes a stop right in Stamford.
Many new restaurants and shopping malls have gone up in the area too. There are many different choices for dining. From upscale to low cost, there are many choices. There are lots of tourist attractions nearby. Visitors to these attractions also turn to Stamford for dining and lodging. For instance the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk is just a short drive away. The maritime aquarium provides great fun for the entire family. This attraction as well as many others have also attributed to the growth that Stamford has seen as visitors make use of the hotels, restaurants and shopping.
With the downturn in the economy, Stamford has seen many benefits. Corporations and Many large companies have looked for ways to cut back. Moving to Stamford provides lower rent yet still prestigious offices. Paying less rent means lowering their expenses and thereby increasing their profits. This has proved a major cause for growth in so many different areas which have proven to be a win-win situation for all.
